Accounting Students Prepare to Participate in VITA

Posted on

Coastal Pines Technical College (CPTC) Accounting students have had the opportunity for the last two years to participate in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) VITA program. This program allows CPTC students to get real world accounting experience during their time in the accounting program.

VITA is a program that allows you to get your taxes prepared and filed for free. The program is coordinated locally by volunteers from one or more community-based organizations. Volunteers are certified by the IRS and must pass annual exams to prepare tax returns, and all tax returns go through a quality review process before being submitted to the IRS. VITA volunteer tax preparers are trained and certified by the IRS to prepare many types of tax returns, including those claiming the EITC and additional child tax credit (CTC).

The Ware County University of Georgia Extension office will offer VITA again during the 2023 tax season. Tax preparation volunteers from Coastal Pines Technical College will be working with UGA Family and Consumer Sciences County Agent, Carrie Vanderver, to provide tax preparation appointments at the UGA Extension Office (3225 Harris Road, Waycross). For more information or to schedule an appointment, please call 912-287-2456.
