Emily O’Bara, a Computer Support Specialist (CIS) student on the Waycross campus, has been named as the 2024 Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL) winner for Coastal Pines Technical College.
GOAL honors excellence in academics and leadership among the state’s technical college students and is a statewide program of the Technical College System of Georgia. Local GOAL winners are selected at each of the state’s 22 technical colleges.
Emily was nominated by her instructor, Laree Thomas, CIS instructor on the Waycross campus. Ms. Thomas stated “Emily has exhibited remarkable dedication to her studies, the CIS program and her CIS classmates and has been an asset to CPTC since beginning her education here”. Emily has already accepted a job offer working in the field full time and volunteers her time outside of class to assist with recruitment and any opportunities to promote the CIS program.
Runners-up for the GOAL title at Coastal Pines Technical College are Madison Dingman, a Paramedicine Advanced EMT student on the Golden Isles campus, and Megan Wilson, a Practical Nursing student from the Waycross campus. Congratulations to all of these students for their efforts and willingness to represent Coastal Pines at a local and state level.
Emily will go on to represent Coastal Pines Technical College at the regional competition on February 27, 2024 in Tifton, and later, the state competition in April in Atlanta. She will be competing against 21 of the states top technical college students.
