Dual Enrollment Makes for a Successful Journey for Local High School Graduate

Posted on

The dual enrollment program offered through Coastal Pines Technical College (CPTC) is a free program offered to high school juniors and seniors. Students who are eligible for the program can receive both high school and college credits during their time taking courses offered by CPTC. One student from Bacon County High School, Madison Bagley, took advantage of the program and has found personal success.

Madison completed dual enrollment courses through both Coastal Pines Technical College and South Georgia State College (SGSC) during her junior and senior years in high school. She took the education courses through a pilot program at Southern Pines College and Career Academy (SPCCA). She graduated from Bacon County High on May 19, 2023, and plans to take the college credits she earned through the dual enrollment program to continue her education by pursuing a bachelor’s degree in education with SGSC in the fall.

Because of her hard work at CPTC and SPCCA through dual enrollment, Madison was hired by the incoming principal, Julie Taylor, and Bacon Primary School as a Paraprofessional. “Madison seems confident that the Education Paraprofessional Pathway with Southern Pines College & Career Academy helped her decide to continue and get her degree in Early Childhood Education. I was very pleased when I observed her working with students and am confident that her experience as a paraprofessional will help her be better prepared when she completes her degree. I look forward to working with Madison and am excited that she chose the Educational Pathway.”, stated Mrs. Taylor.

The Southern Pines College and Career Academy is set to open in fall of 2023 with a full selection of program offerings. Several pilot programs were conducted this year in Coastal Pines Technical College classrooms and labs during the design and construction phase of the College and Career Academy building.
