The 2020 high-school softball season is under way across the state, and there appears to be several standout players here in Southeast Georgia again this year. One of those is Ware County senior Avien Trull who is the first recipient of the Coastal Pines Technical College Female Athlete of the Week Award presented by 912 Sports. The pitcher and infielder for the Lady Gators (4-4) is off to a strong start in the pitching circle and at the plate. Trull, who plays on the right side of the diamond when she isn’t pitching, is currently 2-1 in the circle after finishing with a 14-8 won-loss record last season for a Ware team that won 19 games and advanced to the Class AAAAA state playoffs. As a hitter, Trull is batting. 391 through Ware’s first eight games this season, leading the team with six RBIs and two home runs. In a tournament on Aug. 22, Trull was 7-for-11 at the plate in three games with a sole home run. She had four hits in Ware’s 10-1 victory over Morgan County and also earned the pitching win. “Avien is a well-rounded player,” said Ware coach Rebecca Kirkland. “She is mostly on the mound but plays some first and second base. She is also crucial in our lineup as she has been productive in the three-hole early in the season. She leads by example and contributes a lot to our team.”
