On Wednesday January 29, 2020, Georgia Power donated a truck retired from its fleet to Coastal Pines Technical College’s (ELAC) Electrical Lineworker Apprentice Certification program.
The ELAC is an eight-week training program designed to enhance the skills of those seeking a career as a lineworker in the energy industry. During the course, students are taught general electrical safety skills, construction and skilled trade (CAST) test prep and commercial driver’s license (CDL) training.
The donated truck will allow students to become familiar with the workings of a digger derrick work truck. A derrick truck is used to dig large holes, lift heavy materials and hoist poles.
Throughout the state lineworkers are in high demand, and Coastal Pines Technical College is one of four technical schools that is helping to educate and train future lineworkers in the energy industry. Georgia Power’s Workforce Development team is committed to partnering with the colleges to create a pipeline of individuals who are well-trained and skilled in the field
