Rick Perkins Award Winning Instructor Named for Coastal Pines

Laura Waters, a Speech and Communications Instructor on the Golden Isles campus, has been named as the 2023 Rick Perkins Award for Excellence in Technical Instruction winner for Coastal Pines Technical College.

Laura has been with CPTC since August 1st, 2018. She is the Lead Instructor serving several disciplines: Employability, Political Science, Religion, Music and Spanish. These courses are all taught by adjunct personnel and Laura has done a wonderful job being the facilitator/advisor between the adjunct instructors and the Dean. Laura was elected Southern Regional Chair for the Instructional Faculty Consortium Committees (IFCC) for English, Speech and Humanities in October 2021 She also volunteered to assist with reviewing TCSG standards for the EMPL 1000 course. On a personal note, she also passed her panel interview to carry the professional designation of Recovery Coach Professional (RCP). Laura is a caring and compassionate instructor who cares deeply for her students along with fellow faculty and staff members. She consistently goes out of her way to help and encourage all.

The state Rick Perkins Award winner serves as an ambassador for technical education in Georgia and must have made significant contributions to technical education through innovation and leadership in his or her field of instruction. The winner must also exemplify excellence and a commitment to the mission of the Technical College System of Georgia.

Laura will go on to represent Coastal Pines Technical College at the regional competition, and later, the state competition in April in Atlanta.
