Southern Pines College and Career Academy (SPCCA) hosted a Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting ceremony on Wednesday, October 25, 2023. This event comes on the heels of the construction completion and opening of the College and Career Academy in late August. Since opening the doors, classes have been held daily on the Baxley instructional site offering area high school students a number of program opportunities not otherwise available to them.

SPCCA partners with Coastal Pines Technical College (CPTC) and they deliver dual enrollment program offerings to teach students skills in Industrial Systems Technology, Programmable Logical Controls, Mechatronics Technician, Carpentry Fundamentals, Basic Electrical Systems, Certified Construction Worker, Masonry Plumber’s Assistant. Other programs available to SPCCA students on the Coastal Pines Technical College’s Baxley campus are Automotive Electrical Systems Technician, Criminal Justice Specialist, Diesel Electrical Technician, Education Paraprofessional, Nurse Aide, and Salon & Spa Support Specialist.

In addition to the host of classes currently offered to students, there are other CPTC dual enrollment programs in the planning stages to hopefully be implemented in spring or next fall. These programs include Electrical Vehicle Professional, Basic Heavy Equipment Operator, Basic Timber Harvesting, Foundations of Computer Programming, Electrical Lineworker, and Practical Nursing. High school students receive college and high school course credits at no cost.

The scholarship funds will be awarded to high school graduates from Appling, Bacon and Jeff Davis high school who attended Southern Pines College and Career Academy and wish to further their education at Coastal Pines Technical College.

A special thanks to Dabbs Williams General Contractors, Cogdell Mendrala Architects, Superintendent Goodman, Superintendent Rowland, Superintendent Roppe, and former Superintendent Copeland for their efforts and support in ensuring that Southern Pines College and Career Academy could open its doors and become a multi community resource.
