Coastal Pines Adult Education Program's ESL/Civics Students Become U.S. Citizens

Posted on

ESL/Civics students enrolled in Coastal Pines Technical College's Adult Education Program have successfully completed a course focused on American civics and government as part of their English as a Second Language (ESL) studies. This self-paced course prepared 10 ESL/Civics students to pass the naturalization test and officially become United States citizens.

ESL/Civics classes are specifically designed to teach essential U.S. history, government structure, and civic responsibilities while helping students develop the English language proficiency needed for their naturalization interview and test.

Eugenia Evans, Adjunct Adult Education ESL/Civics Instructor at Coastal Pines Technical College, has dedicated over two decades to providing instruction that equips ESL and Civics students with the knowledge necessary to pass their citizenship test and/or earn their High School Equivalency (HSE)/GED diploma.

Katrena Felder, Executive Director of the Adult Education Program, believes that every adult deserves the right to an education. "Because adult education provides the foundation for lifelong learning, it empowers individuals to become self-sufficient, enhances critical thinking skills, and helps reduce inequality by enabling everyone to contribute meaningfully to their community," she said.
