Brunswick, GA — The Golden Isles Development Authority (GIDA) will host the “Golden Isles Talent Discovery Showcase,” an engaging event set to take place from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, September 6, 2024, during First Friday in Historic Downtown Brunswick.

The Talent Discovery Showcase is an opportunity for students and professionals to learn about upskilling and local careers in the skilled trade professions. First Friday attendees who stop by the GIDA offices, located at 209 Gloucester Street, will be able to access talent development tools, connect with local educators and interact with exhibits from area universities.

“We're excited to highlight the incredible career opportunities available right here in our region and tap into the vibrant atmosphere of First Friday,” explains McKenzie Padgett, Director of Business Development at GIDA.

The showcase event will feature a variety of activities, including:

  • Golden Isles College and Career Academy (GICCA) Heavy Machinery Simulator: Get hands-on experience with state-of-the-art equipment in a safe environment and explore the world of heavy machinery operations.
  • Coastal Pines Technical College (CPTC) Mobile Welding Lab: See advanced welding technology in action and learn how CPTC is equipping the next generation of skilled tradespeople.
  • Keep Glynn Running Campaign: Discover the impact of Keep Glynn Running - a local campaign promoting careers in trade - and learn how you can get involved.
  • Brunswick Job Corps Talent Opportunities: Explore job opportunities and career paths in various trade professions and industries.

“By bringing our Mobile Welding Lab and interactive experiences to First Friday, we are not only showcasing the importance of skilled trade careers but also providing a hands-on opportunity for the Golden Isles community to explore the vital programs available to them through CPTC and GICCA,” adds Kimberly Burgess, Apprenticeship Coordinator at CPTC. “Together, we are fostering a stronger workforce and supporting the future of skilled trades in Glynn County."

GIDA, GICCA, and CPTC will execute this event together as part of their broader Golden Isles Talent Development Strategy initiative.

“This event is a great example of how we have implemented an exceptionally robust workforce development strategy, distinguished by its comprehensive training and educational initiatives spanning all levels of learning,” said Brian Weese, GICCA CEO. “This approach aims to equip the Golden Isles with a skilled workforce capable of meeting present and future demands.”
