Ware County Jail Inmates Earn OSHA Forklift Certification through Coastal Pines

Posted on

The Coastal Pines Technical College (CPTC) Adult Education Program conducted its first ever Integrated Education and Training (IET) OSHA Forklift Operator Training on May 31, 2024, at the Ware County Jail. Four adult education students incarcerated at the Ware County Jail voluntarily participated in the final portion of the weeklong hands-on skills part of the OSHA Forklift training.

Under the direction of Mr. Lacey Hines, OSHA Forklift Instructor, all four adult education students gained and exercised their knowledge and skills to successfully earn their certification as an OSHA Forklift Operator. In conjunction with the OSHA Forklift Training, students also participated in a virtual/online financial literacy training provided by Truist Bank.

These four students are also pursing their High School Equivalency (HSE) Diploma and will take the last parts of their test to earn their diploma soon. This is a significant day for Coastal Pines Technical College’s Adult Education Program and the Ware County Sheriff’s Office.

Coastal Pines Technical College and the Ware County Sheriff’s Department are continuing to expand and collaborate to reduce recidivism and develop a movement toward developing a career pathway for incarcerated learners to achieve their educational and employment goals.
